Why Highway Work Zones Are Especially Hazardous
Highway work zones present significant dangers to pedestrians and workers due to high speeds and limited space. Even with visible equipment and warning signs, drivers may misjudge distance or fail to notice workers on the shoulder.
Collisions in these zones can result in severe injuries because vehicles often strike workers directly or push them toward roadside equipment. Careful traffic control, reduced speed limits, and clear signage are crucial for minimizing risk, but hazards remain whenever people work near moving traffic.
