Why Wrong-Way Crashes on Highways Often Lead to Severe Injuries
Wrong-way crashes are among the most dangerous types of highway accidents because they often involve head-on impact at high speeds. On major roadways like Interstate 88, vehicles often travel quickly, leaving drivers with little time to react before a collision.
These crashes frequently occur during the overnight or early morning hours, when visibility is lower, and traffic is quieter. In some situations, drivers may enter exit ramps or travel lanes incorrectly without realizing it until it is too late.
Head-on crashes can cause serious damage to both vehicles involved. Safety equipment such as airbags and seat belts may reduce harm, but the force of impact in these accidents is often severe. Road closures are also common after major highway collisions while crews remove debris and document the scene.
