Beloit, WI (May 6, 2026) – A passenger was seriously injured after a high-speed crash late Monday night in Beloit along Woodward Avenue.
Emergency units responded around 10:47 p.m. to the 1300 block of Woodward Avenue. A silver 2005 Dodge pickup had lost control and crashed into a cemetery, striking multiple headstones and sustaining heavy damage.
The driver fled the scene on foot before crews arrived. Surveillance footage from nearby homes reportedly showed a person running away shortly after the crash.
A man in his 20s who was a passenger remained trapped inside the vehicle with significant injuries. Crews worked to free him from the wreckage before he was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital for treatment. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
High-Speed Crashes Can Lead to Severe Damage and Entrapment
High-speed crashes often result in major vehicle damage, especially when a driver loses control. When a vehicle leaves the roadway, it may strike fixed objects like trees, structures, or in some cases, cemetery markers, increasing the force of impact.
These collisions can leave passengers trapped inside due to crushed metal and structural damage. Emergency crews may need specialized tools to safely remove victims, which can extend rescue time.
Speed also reduces reaction time, making it harder for drivers to regain control once something goes wrong. In areas near residential zones, unexpected obstacles or road conditions can quickly turn a high-speed situation into a serious crash.
