York County, VA (May 6, 2026) – A 25-year-old man was injured on Tuesday evening after an electric scooter collided with a pickup truck at a busy intersection.
The crash happened just before 9 p.m. on May 5, at the intersection of Pocahontas Trail and Route 199. Emergency units responded after reports of a collision involving a scooter and a pickup truck.
Investigators said the scooter rider was traveling in the left lane of Pocahontas Trail without lights or reflectors when he was struck. The pickup truck was making a legal left turn onto Route 199 at the time of the crash.
The scooter rider, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. Officials later said he is in stable condition. The pickup driver, a 44-year-old man from York County, was not reported injured.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We are thinking of the injured rider as he recovers.
Why Do Scooter and Vehicle Collisions Often Happen at Intersections?
Intersections can create conflict points where vehicles and smaller riders cross paths from different directions. Turning movements are a common factor in these types of crashes.
Visibility can also be limited, especially when scooters or bikes are not equipped with lights or reflective gear. This can make it harder for drivers to see them in time to react.
Lane positioning plays a role as well. When smaller vehicles travel in lanes not typically expected for their use, it can increase the risk of a collision during turns or merges.
