Tecumseh, OK (May 6, 2026) – One person died following an explosion and large fire at a business in downtown Tecumseh on Wednesday, according to police.
Authorities said the incident occurred around 12:50 p.m. at a construction company near the intersection of Broadway and Maple. Emergency crews responded to reports of an explosion and arrived to find heavy flames and thick black smoke coming from the building.
Officials initially believed a person might have been inside at the time of the explosion. After firefighters brought the blaze under control, crews searched the structure and located a deceased victim inside.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
Aerial footage from the scene showed extensive damage to the building, along with scorched vehicles nearby. Police closed surrounding streets and evacuated the area while firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and secure the scene.
The cause of the explosion and fire remains under investigation.
