Bensalem, PA (April 7, 2026) – A man was killed early Tuesday morning, April 7, after a chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles along US-1 in Bensalem.
The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes between the Rockhill Drive and Neshaminy Mall exit and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. According to emergency units, a Honda Fit driven by 45-year-old Julio Ricardo Munoz of Philadelphia experienced mechanical problems and came to a stop in the roadway.
Munoz exited the vehicle shortly after it stopped. At that moment, a Kia Seltos struck the disabled Honda. Munoz was then struck by his own vehicle after the initial impact. The Honda was subsequently hit again by a Jeep Cherokee traveling in the same direction.
Emergency units confirmed that Munoz did not survive his injuries at the scene. No other injuries were immediately reported.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones.
What Drivers Should Know About Highway Breakdown-Related Collisions
When a vehicle stops unexpectedly on a highway, the risk of secondary collisions increases significantly. High-speed roads like US-1 often leave limited time for approaching drivers to react, especially in low-light morning conditions.
Stopped vehicles can become difficult to see if hazard lights are not activated immediately or visibility is reduced. Even brief exits from a car can place a person in a vulnerable position near active traffic lanes.
Investigators often review roadway layout, lighting, traffic flow, and vehicle positions to determine how these incidents develop. Mechanical failure cases also receive attention to understand why a vehicle became disabled in a live traffic lane.
