What Makes Motorcycle Passing Maneuvers High Risk
Passing another vehicle on a two-lane road can be dangerous, especially in areas where it is not permitted. Limited visibility and oncoming traffic can reduce the time available to react.
Motorcycles are smaller and less visible than other vehicles, which can make it harder for drivers to detect them during turns. When a vehicle begins a left turn, a passing motorcycle may be directly in its path.
High speeds also reduce the rider’s ability to stop or adjust quickly. In crashes like these, riders are more exposed, which can lead to more severe outcomes compared to occupants of larger vehicles.
