Why Rear-End Crashes on Highways Often Lead to Serious Injuries
Rear-end crashes on highways can cause severe injuries because vehicles are usually traveling at higher speeds. Even when traffic is moving steadily, a short delay in braking can lead to a strong impact between vehicles. Larger vehicles, such as vans, may also absorb crashes differently than passenger cars, which can affect the level of damage and injuries involved.
Seat belt use is another factor often reviewed after these types of accidents. Wearing a seat belt may help reduce the risk of serious harm during a sudden collision. In many highway crashes, investigators also look at following distance, visibility, traffic flow, and road conditions to better understand what happened.
Highway accidents can also create traffic delays and hazards for other drivers nearby. Cleanup and vehicle removal sometimes take time, especially when multiple lanes are affected.
