The dump truck also struck a nearby passenger vehicle carrying a parent and two students from Haughton schools. The parent and one of the children were taken to a hospital for treatment.
No further details about the conditions of those taken to the hospital have been released.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our thoughts are with those injured as they receive medical care.
How School Bus Crashes Can Affect Multiple Vehicles
School bus crashes can involve several vehicles due to the size and movement of buses on public roads. When a large vehicle enters an intersection, nearby traffic may have limited time or space to react.
Intersections can become particularly dangerous when multiple vehicles approach from different directions at the same time. Large trucks and buses require longer distances to slow down or stop, which can increase the chance of a collision.
School buses are built with reinforced sides and high seating positions to help protect students during crashes. These design features often reduce the severity of injuries for passengers inside the bus.
Even so, surrounding vehicles may still experience significant impact forces. Road awareness and a careful approach to intersections help reduce the likelihood of incidents involving buses and larger trucks.
