Brentwood, NY (January 29, 2026) – A bicyclist sustained serious injuries following a collision with a vehicle on Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Express Drive South and Washington Avenue, according to Suffolk County Police.
The incident occurred around 2:33 p.m. when a 2020 Hyundai Elantra, traveling eastbound on Express Drive South, struck a bicyclist who was riding northbound through the intersection. Emergency medical personnel responded swiftly and transported the injured man to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious physical injuries. Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the bicyclist.
The driver of the Hyundai, identified as 39-year-old Steven Bagni of Coram, was not injured in the crash. The vehicle involved was impounded for a full safety inspection as part of the ongoing investigation by Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives.
The intersection was temporarily affected as police documented the scene and gathered evidence. Investigators are continuing to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the collision.
