Bridgeport, CT (March 15, 2026) – A 70-year-old pedestrian was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle on Saturday night, March 14, at the intersection of Capitol Avenue and Parrott Avenue in Bridgeport. When responders arrived, they found the victim lying in the roadway.
Authorities said the vehicle involved was driven by a 62-year-old New York motorist. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators following the incident.
A preliminary investigation determined that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Capitol Avenue when it struck a pedestrian walking north across the roadway. The victim, identified only as a Bridgeport resident, was transported to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in critical but stable condition.
The roadway was temporarily closed while emergency units worked at the scene and investigators documented evidence. Traffic in the area later resumed normal flow once the road was cleared.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We are thinking of the injured pedestrian as they receive medical care.
Pedestrian Safety Risks at Urban Intersections
Pedestrian accidents often occur at intersections where vehicles and foot traffic share limited space. Drivers turning, accelerating through traffic signals, or traveling along busy city streets may not always see pedestrians crossing the road, particularly at night or in poorly lit areas.
Older pedestrians can face increased risk of serious injury in traffic accidents due to reduced reaction times and greater physical vulnerability. Even crashes at moderate speeds can result in severe trauma when a person is struck by a vehicle.
Safety experts recommend that drivers slow down when approaching intersections and remain alert for people crossing the street. Pedestrians are also encouraged to use crosswalks when available and stay visible to motorists, especially during nighttime hours.
