Why Bus Stop Areas Can Be High-Risk Locations for Pedestrians
Bus stops are often placed along busy roads where traffic moves quickly, and drivers may not expect people to be close to the roadway. This can increase the risk of accidents, especially when vehicles leave their lanes or lose control.
Benches and waiting areas are sometimes located just a short distance from passing traffic. Without protective barriers, people sitting or standing nearby may be exposed to sudden dangers from approaching vehicles.
Factors such as driver distraction, speeding, or medical emergencies can lead to situations in which a car leaves the road. In these moments, pedestrians at bus stops are among the most vulnerable due to their proximity and limited ability to react quickly.
