Brooklyn, NY (January 20, 2026) – Several people were injured Monday following a car accident on the eastbound side of the Gowanus Expressway near 54th St in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn, according to initial emergency dispatch reports.
The crash occurred during the day on January 19, involving multiple vehicles and prompting a large-scale response from FDNY, NYPD, and EMS units. Upon arrival, first responders found several occupants in need of medical attention. Paramedics assessed multiple victims at the scene, and at least two individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
Traffic on the Gowanus Expy was significantly impacted as emergency crews worked to treat the injured and clear the scene. Several lanes were temporarily closed, leading to delays through the early afternoon hours.
