Westbound Interstate 70 was closed between Exit 11 at Taylorstown and Exit 6 at Claysville for several hours after the crash. The highway later reopened to one lane while crews continued working in the area.
The crash remains under investigation, and additional details may become available as authorities continue their review.
Our condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the driver who died, and we wish the injured driver a full recovery.
Why Median Crossover Crashes Are Often Deadly
Median crossover crashes can be severe because one vehicle may enter traffic moving in the opposite direction. On highways, this can lead to a head-on impact at high speed, which places extreme force on drivers and passengers.
Crashes involving tractor-trailers can be especially serious for people in smaller vehicles. A large truck has much greater weight and height, which can increase damage during a direct collision. Even modern safety systems might not prevent serious harm in a high-speed impact.
Highway closures often last for hours after fatal crashes. Crews may need time to help injured people, clear damaged vehicles, inspect the roadway, and document the scene before lanes can safely reopen.
