Caldwell, ID (April 18, 2026) – A 4-year-old child was injured in a hit-and-run crash on Thursday afternoon, April 16, in the 4800 block of Ida Red Avenue in Caldwell.
The incident happened just before 4 p.m. when the child was riding a bicycle in the street in front of their home. Investigators said a truck was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the front tire of the bicycle, causing the child to fall into the roadway.
Emergency units responded and evaluated the child at the scene. The family later transported the child to a nearby hospital, where the injuries were described as minor.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
Our thoughts are with the child and family during their recovery.
Why Residential Bicycle Crashes Involving Children Are Treated Seriously
Crashes involving children on bicycles often occur in residential neighborhoods where vehicles and pedestrians share the same roadway space. Young riders may be harder for drivers to see, especially when they are near parked cars or playing close to the street.
Speed is a major factor in how severe these incidents become. Even relatively low-speed impacts can cause a child to fall and suffer injuries due to their size and lack of protection.
Hit-and-run situations add additional concern because immediate medical assessment and reporting are delayed. In many cases, early evaluation and quick response can help ensure injuries are properly treated and documented.
