How Run-Off-Road Crashes Can Increase Injury Severity
Run-off-road crashes happen when a vehicle leaves the roadway after a collision or sudden maneuver. These incidents can become more severe when the vehicle strikes fixed objects such as trees, fences, or other obstacles. Each additional impact increases the risk of serious harm.
Roadside hazards may be close to travel lanes, leaving little space for recovery. Vehicles that lose control can travel unpredictable paths before stopping. This can result in multiple impacts in a short time.
Vehicle speed, road conditions, and driver reaction all affect crash outcomes. Even a single collision can become more dangerous when a vehicle continues moving and strikes additional objects.
