Cascade Twp, MI (January 28, 2026) – A massive pileup involving between 20 and 30 vehicles shut down a portion of M-6 in Cascade Township on Tuesday morning, leaving one semi-truck driver injured and triggering a large-scale emergency response.
The crash occurred around 10:45 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of M-6, just past 60th Street SE, near the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. According to Michigan State Police, a semi-truck driver sustained a minor injury after being pinned inside the cab. First responders worked quickly to free him from the wreckage before transporting him for further evaluation.
The pileup forced authorities to close a significant stretch of the freeway for several hours as crews navigated the challenging scene. Slick roadway conditions and reduced visibility may have contributed to the high number of collisions, although officials have not yet confirmed a definitive cause.
As of Tuesday afternoon, MSP continued working to determine the total number of vehicles involved. Images from the scene showed cars and trucks tangled across multiple lanes, with several vehicles sustaining significant damage.
Emergency personnel from multiple agencies responded to assist with rescue operations, traffic control, and cleanup efforts. Tow trucks were brought in to remove the damaged vehicles, and traffic was diverted as the investigation continued.
We send our best wishes to the injured truck driver and all others affected by this large-scale crash, and we commend the emergency crews for their swift response under challenging conditions.
