Pedestrian Crossings at Night Can Increase Crash Risks
Pedestrian crashes often occur when individuals attempt to cross busy roadways outside designated crosswalks or during low-visibility conditions.
Roadways such as Illinois Route 159 can carry steady traffic even during evening hours, and drivers may have limited time to react when a pedestrian enters the roadway unexpectedly.
Safety experts note that reduced lighting, higher vehicle speeds, and limited visibility at night can increase the risk of collisions involving pedestrians. Investigators reviewing such incidents typically examine lighting conditions, roadway design, and driver actions to determine how the crash occurred.
