Centre County, PA (February 27, 2026) – Two drivers were hurt on Wednesday, February 25, after a fuel tanker and an SUV collided along Route 150 near North Eagle Valley Road and Interstate 80 in Centre County.
The crash occurred between the I-80 eastbound off-ramp at Exit 158 and the Clover Leaf near Milesburg. According to State Police, the SUV turned left in front of a fuel oil tanker carrying about 1,000 gallons of home heating oil. The tanker overturned during the collision, and most of the fuel spilled onto the roadway.
Both drivers were flown to a hospital for treatment. Officials reported the SUV driver suffered serious injuries, while the tanker driver was hurt moderately.
The roadway was temporarily closed as crews worked to clear the scene and address the spilled fuel. Route 150 has since reopened to traffic.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
Why Do Tanker Truck Crashes Often Lead to Road Closures?
Crashes involving tanker trucks can pose additional risks due to the materials they carry. When a tanker overturns, fuel or other liquids may spill across lanes, increasing the chance of fire, environmental damage, or additional collisions.
Cleanup can take hours, especially if large amounts of fuel are involved. Crews often need to contain and remove spilled material before traffic can safely resume. Specialized equipment may also be required to upright and remove the damaged truck.
Because of these factors, roads are commonly shut down for extended periods after tanker crashes. Detours and traffic backups are typical until the scene is cleared and the roadway is inspected for safety.
