How Center Line Crossovers Can Lead to Deadly Head-On Collisions
Head-on crashes often occur when a vehicle crosses the centerline into oncoming traffic. These incidents can be especially severe because both vehicles may be traveling at speed when they collide.
Roadway factors such as curves, visibility, and driver attention can influence whether a vehicle stays within its lane. Even a brief lapse can result in a crossover into oncoming traffic.
Investigators typically examine vehicle paths, road markings, and conditions at the scene. These details help determine how and why a vehicle left its lane before the crash occurred.
