Why Do Multi-Vehicle Crashes Lead to Major Highway Disruptions?
Highway crashes involving multiple vehicles can quickly block several lanes, especially during overnight or early morning hours when visibility may be reduced. When more than one vehicle is involved, the scene often becomes more complex, requiring additional time to assess damage and clear the roadway safely.
These types of crashes can also create chain reactions. One initial impact may lead to secondary collisions, increasing the number of vehicles affected. This can make it harder to determine how the crash began and can extend how long lanes remain closed.
Traffic delays are common after multi-vehicle incidents because responders must manage debris, damaged vehicles, and driver safety all at once. Even after vehicles are removed, it may take time before traffic patterns fully return to normal.
