Why Hit-and-Run Crashes Involving Scooters Can Be Especially Dangerous
Busy approaches near East 77th Street can become unpredictable, especially where vehicles and smaller riders share the road. After a serious crash in Chicago, crews often work to manage traffic while securing the area.
E-scooters offer little protection compared to cars, leaving riders exposed during a collision. When a crash occurs, injuries can be severe due to direct impact with a vehicle or the roadway.
Hit-and-run crashes can make early information limited, which can delay understanding of what happened. Factors such as roadway design, visibility, and how riders enter traffic can all influence the risk of these types of crashes.
