Clay Co, MO (February 2, 2026) – An accident involving two southbound vehicles led to injuries on Sunday afternoon on Interstate 435 in Clay County. The incident was reported around 3:05 p.m. near the 47 mile marker, prompting a response from area emergency personnel.
Reports indicate that a 2021 International commercial vehicle and a 2016 Kia were traveling southbound when they became involved in the accident. The collision resulted in severe damage to the Kia, which was later towed from the scene by a local towing service. The International truck sustained minor damage and was able to be driven away following the incident.
A 27-year-old man operating the commercial vehicle suffered a variety of injuries during the accident. After being evaluated at the scene, he chose to seek additional medical care on his own. The driver of the Kia, a 64-year-old woman from Liberty, was also involved in the collision as crews worked to secure the area and assist those affected.
Traffic along the southbound lanes of I-435 experienced delays while responders managed the scene and cleared damaged vehicles from the roadway. The accident remains under investigation as officials continue reviewing the events surrounding the incident.
