Sumter County, FL (July 16, 2026) – A 65-year-old Crystal River man lost his life on Tuesday, July 14, after an e-bike rollover along County Road 48 east of County Road 575 in Sumter County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was traveling east on the south shoulder of C.R. 48 around 2 p.m. while a tractor-trailer driven by a 70-year-old man from Valdosta was also heading east on the roadway. The e-bike rider lost control, overturned into the travel lane, and was hit by the passing truck.
The Crystal River resident was pronounced dead at the site. No injuries were reported for the truck driver, and no additional information has been released.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances that led to the fatal collision. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the man’s family, friends, and everyone affected by this loss.
