Bicycle Collisions Involving Motor Vehicles
Bicycle collisions involving vehicles often occur at intersections or roadway crossings where visibility and right-of-way rules come into play. These incidents are commonly influenced by turning movements, sidewalk-to-road transitions, or unexpected entry into traffic lanes.
Investigators typically examine the direction of travel, road layout, and sightlines between cyclists and drivers. The speed of the vehicle and the timing of the cyclist’s movement are also reviewed to better understand how the collision occurred.
Weather, lighting conditions, and traffic density may also provide additional context. Even in low-speed impacts, bicycle crashes can result in injuries due to the limited physical protection for riders compared to vehicle occupants.
