Dickinson Twp, PA (January 30, 2026) – A serious collision involving a commercial truck and a Subaru left one woman injured on January 28 after a third vehicle allegedly caused a chain-reaction crash along Rte 34 near Peach Glen Rd in Cumberland County.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 8:25 a.m. when an unidentified driver made a left turn from Peach Glen Rd onto Rte 34 in front of a northbound truck. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the truck driver swerved into the southbound lanes, overturning and striking a Subaru Forester traveling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Subaru, 75-year-old Barbara Braband of Carlisle, was trapped inside her vehicle and required extrication by emergency crews. She was later airlifted to Hershey Medical Center for treatment. Hospital officials reported Thursday afternoon that Braband was listed in good condition, although the extent of her injuries has not been released.

The truck, which was hauling 40 tons of soda ash, continued sliding after the impact and came to rest against a home on the west side of the highway. The truck driver was not injured, officials confirmed.

The vehicle that initiated the crash fled the scene and was last seen heading northbound on Rte 34. Investigators have not released a description of that vehicle but say the search remains active.

Route 34 remained closed until just before 5 p.m. as cleanup crews, police, and PennDOT officials cleared debris and continued the investigation.

Our thoughts are with Ms. Braband and her loved ones as she recovers from this frightening incident.
