Los Angeles, CA (September 7, 2026) – A fatal multi-vehicle collision was reported on southbound Interstate 110 just north of Slauson Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 5.
Initial reports described three to six vehicles involved. One vehicle was overturned on its roof, another was facing the wrong direction, and a third had come to rest against the center divider wall.
All southbound lanes were initially held as emergency units worked on the freeway. A hard closure later affected lanes two through four, and four tow trucks were ultimately requested.
A SigAlert was issued for an estimated two hours. The circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation.

Overturned Vehicles Can Extend Multi-Lane Freeway Closures
A vehicle resting on its roof can require extra working space before it can be safely moved. Crews may need to stabilize it, check the passenger compartment, and clear debris before towing equipment can approach.
Multi-vehicle wrecks can also leave cars scattered across several travel lanes or against barriers. Those final positions may prevent traffic from passing safely, even when some vehicles remain drivable.
Overnight freeway closures can create additional challenges because approaching motorists have less visibility and may encounter stopped traffic unexpectedly. Tow operations, debris removal, roadway inspections, and medical activity can all delay reopening. When several vehicles require removal, each step may need to be completed in sequence before normal traffic flow can resume.
