Pedestrian Injury Risks After Multi-Vehicle Crashes
Pedestrian crashes involving more than one vehicle can be especially serious. A person on foot has no protection from the force of impact, and injuries may involve the head, chest, legs, or internal organs.
Intersections can add risk because traffic may be turning, stopping, or moving through several lanes at once. Large vehicles, such as semi-trucks, can also affect visibility and stopping distance.
After a serious pedestrian crash, medical teams may begin lifesaving care right away. Hospital treatment can help check for injuries that are not visible at the scene. Road closures may also be needed while emergency units assist the injured person and clear damaged vehicles.
