Jacksonville, NC (July 12, 2026) – One person died after being struck by two vehicles on July 10 along Western Blvd near Gateway Dr South in Jacksonville.

The fatal crash happened at about 12:30 a.m. when a Jeep Wrangler hit a pedestrian on the roadway. As the Jeep’s driver stopped and attempted to help the person, a second vehicle traveling through the area struck the pedestrian before leaving without stopping.

The police said the second vehicle was pulling a U-Haul trailer at the time. The pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital, where the person later died from their injuries.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the vehicle towing the U-Haul trailer to contact the Jacksonville police or Crime Stoppers as they continue working to identify the driver.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and additional details may be released as more information becomes available.

Our heartfelt sympathies are with the family and friends mourning this tragic loss.

Why Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Cases Can Take Time to Resolve

Hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians mostly require extensive investigative work before all of the facts become clear. Investigators may review surveillance video from nearby businesses, examine physical evidence left behind, speak with witnesses, and analyze vehicle debris to help identify the driver involved. Public tips can also provide valuable leads, especially when witnesses notice distinctive features such as a trailer, vehicle color, or damage.

In many cases, investigators also work to establish the sequence of impacts when more than one vehicle is involved. While early reports may contain only limited information, additional evidence gathered over time can help clarify what happened and determine how each vehicle contributed to the fatal encounter.
