Dallas, TX (August 9, 2026) – A pedestrian died after a crash involving an SUV and a Waymo vehicle on Maple Avenue in Dallas on Friday, August 7. The collision happened just after 11:30 p.m. Police arrived at the scene and found a man in the street with bystanders providing aid.
The injured man was taken to an area hospital, where he later died. According to police, the man was crossing Maple Avenue outside a crosswalk when an SUV traveling southwest struck him. The impact threw him into a Waymo vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. The Waymo detected the pedestrian and slowed before the man struck its left rear. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time.
Both vehicles remained at the scene, and the SUV driver cooperated with police. The victim’s identity had not been released. This is a developing story.
