McHenry, IL (July 5, 2026) – One person was injured after a residential fire caused significant damage to a home on Friday night in McHenry, with officials investigating whether fireworks may have played a role.
According to the McHenry Township Fire Protection District, crews responded at approximately 10:21 p.m. on July 3 to the 5000 block of Pyndale Drive following reports of a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived within about four and a half minutes to find smoke coming from a single-family home. Crews entered the residence and brought the fire under control within 15 minutes. They also conducted searches of the home and confirmed that all occupants had safely evacuated before emergency personnel arrived.
One occupant was evaluated at the scene by paramedics and transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No firefighters were injured during the response.
Officials said the home sustained significant damage and has been deemed uninhabitable. Fire departments from Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox Lake, Nunda, Spring Grove, Wauconda, Wonder Lake, Woodstock, and the Salvation Army Canteen assisted at the scene or provided coverage during the incident.
Fire officials said an initial 911 caller reported that fireworks may have been involved, but that information has not yet been confirmed. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the McHenry Township Fire Protection District and the McHenry Police Department.
