Fontana, WI (April 19, 2026) – A 57-year-old woman died Thursday evening following a boating accident on Lake Geneva near Gordy’s Marine in Fontana. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on April 16 during a docking attempt at the marina located at 320 Lake Street.
Authorities said the woman fell from a motorized watercraft during docking and became entangled in the vessel’s propeller. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and were able to remove her from the water, but she was pronounced dead shortly after.
The operator of the boat remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Officials stated that alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the incident, and no criminal charges have been filed at this time.
Multiple agencies, including the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and local law enforcement, are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
Our condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased woman.
How Docking Accidents on Water Can Become Life-Threatening
Boating accidents during docking can become dangerous when passengers fall into the water near a moving vessel. Propellers can still pose a serious risk even at low speeds, especially in tight marina areas where boats are maneuvering closely.
Slips or balance loss during docking are more likely when passengers are moving between the boat and the dock. Water conditions, boat motion, and timing all play a role in stability during these transitions.
Emergency response in marina environments often focuses on rapid water rescue and immediate medical intervention. Even when a victim quickly recovers, injuries from propeller contact can be severe or fatal due to the nature of the trauma.
