Her vehicle left the roadway and went down an embankment estimated to be about 25 to 30 feet below the highway.

Misty Lynn died from her injuries at the scene. Four other people, including two children, were injured in the crash and taken to a hospital for treatment. Officials have not released details about the extent of their injuries.

The crash caused significant disruption along Highway 180 as crews worked at the scene. Additional details about the people involved have not been released.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim, and wish those injured a smooth recovery.

Head-On Crash Risks on Two-Lane Highways

Routes such as Highway 180 often connect rural communities and carry traffic traveling in opposite directions on two-lane roadways. When a crash occurs in areas like Fresno County, emergency crews typically focus on securing the highway and assisting those involved.

Head-on crashes can happen when a vehicle crosses the center line into the path of oncoming traffic. This type of collision often results in severe damage because the vehicles meet directly while traveling in opposite directions.

Road conditions, driver attention, and passing maneuvers can all influence whether a vehicle remains within its lane. When a vehicle leaves its lane on a two-lane highway, even a brief moment can lead to a serious crash with vehicles approaching from the other direction.
