Gallipolis, OH (May 12, 2026) – A 32-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday evening in Gallipolis at the intersection of Georges Creek Road and Johnson Ridge Road. The collision happened just before 7 p.m. on May 11 and involved a motorcycle and an SUV.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Kruz White of Gallipolis was riding a 2013 Yamaha R1 westbound on Georges Creek Road when he traveled left of center. At the same time, a 1997 Jeep Wrangler had backed out of a driveway and entered the eastbound lane.
Investigators said the motorcycle struck the Jeep shortly after it established position in the roadway. Emergency units, including Gallia County EMS and Gallipolis Fire Department, responded to the scene. White was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. The driver of the Jeep was not reported to have suffered serious injuries.
George’s Creek Road was closed for about two hours while troopers documented the crash and cleared the roadway.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim.
Why Left-of-Center Motorcycle Crashes Can Be Especially Severe
Head-on and left-of-center collisions involving motorcycles often result in fatal outcomes due to the limited protection available to riders. Even at moderate speeds, the force of impact between a motorcycle and a larger vehicle can be extreme.
Rural and residential roads can present additional hazards, including driveways that open directly into travel lanes. When vehicles enter or exit these areas, timing and visibility become critical factors in preventing collisions.
After fatal crashes, investigators typically examine roadway position, driver actions, and visibility conditions to determine how the sequence of events unfolded. These findings help clarify contributing factors and improve roadway safety awareness.
