Galveston, TX (January 20, 2026) – A deadly collision on the Galveston Causeway on Monday afternoon claimed the life of one driver and temporarily halted traffic in the northbound lanes, according to local authorities.
The crash occurred on January 19 when a northbound Jeep struck the rear of a truck traveling ahead, triggering a multi-vehicle incident. The force of the impact left the Jeep’s driver trapped inside the vehicle, requiring Galveston emergency crews to perform an extrication.
Paramedics transported the injured driver to UTMB Health Trauma Center in Galveston, where the individual later died from their injuries. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
Police reported that two other vehicles were also involved in the crash, though no injuries were sustained by occupants of those vehicles. The Galveston Police Department continues to investigate the events leading up to the fatal collision.
All lanes of the Galveston Causeway have since been reopened following the emergency response and cleanup.
