Garner, NC (February 24, 2026) – A serious multi-vehicle crash caused heavy delays on Monday morning along US-70 Bus E near Auburn-Knightdale Rd in Garner. The collision happened during the early commute on Monday, February 23, and involved a box truck and four other vehicles.
According to investigators, the box truck rear-ended three vehicles before striking a Ford Mustang. The impact pushed the Mustang into the median, where the truck came to rest on top of it.
Three people were hurt in the crash, including the woman driving the Mustang. Emergency units removed her from the crushed car before taking all three injured people to a local hospital. Their current conditions have not been released.
The crash led to lane closures for several hours, creating significant traffic backups. One lane reopened around 11 a.m. after being closed for much of the morning commute.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
How Multi-Vehicle Crashes Often Occur on Busy Highways
Crashes involving several vehicles often begin with a single rear-end impact. When traffic is heavy, drivers may not have enough time to react, which can lead to a chain reaction involving multiple cars.
Large vehicles like box trucks require more distance to slow down or stop. If traffic suddenly slows, the force of impact can push smaller vehicles into other lanes or medians. This can increase the severity of damage and injuries.
Morning commute hours also tend to see higher crash rates due to congestion and time pressure. Even a brief lapse in attention can lead to serious outcomes when several vehicles are traveling close together.
