Why Single-Vehicle Tree Collisions Can Lead to Serious Injuries
Roads like Griffin Pond Road often run through rural areas where trees and other obstacles are close to the roadway. When a vehicle leaves the pavement, it may quickly encounter fixed objects such as trees, utility poles, or drainage structures.
Crashes involving trees can cause significant damage because the object does not move during impact. The sudden stop created by striking a tree can result in strong forces inside the vehicle, especially when the collision occurs at higher speeds.
Rural roads may also include narrow shoulders, curves, or limited lighting at night. These factors can affect driver visibility and reaction time, which may increase the chance of a vehicle leaving the roadway.
