How Icy Roads Increase the Risk of Multi-Vehicle Crashes
Icy conditions can make even minor maneuvers dangerous, as vehicles may slide or spin out of control. Collisions often cascade when one car loses traction, creating a chain-reaction effect that can involve multiple vehicles.
Drivers’ speed and attention are key factors in preventing accidents on slick surfaces. Even experienced drivers can lose control when roads are icy, and emergency vehicles are also at risk while stopped to assist. Maintaining a safe distance, slowing down, and using winter tires can help reduce the likelihood and severity of such crashes.
