Why Do Left-Turn Crashes Involving Motorcycles Often Lead to Severe Outcomes?
Left-turn crashes involving motorcycles can be especially dangerous because riders have less protection than occupants in larger vehicles. When a vehicle turns across a motorcycle’s path, the rider may have little time to react or avoid the impact.
Motorcycles are smaller and can be harder to see, particularly at busy intersections where drivers are watching multiple directions. Misjudging speed or distance can quickly lead to a collision.
The force of impact in these crashes often leads to serious injuries due to direct exposure. Visibility, timing, and driver awareness all influence how these incidents occur and how severe they become.
