Hamburg, NY (January 9, 2026) – A serious pedestrian-involved accident occurred on Thursday evening on the New York State Thruway in the Town of Hamburg, resulting in multiple hospitalizations. According to New York State Police, the incident unfolded around 7:00 p.m. near Exit 57.
Preliminary findings indicate that a car had pulled over onto the right shoulder of the off-ramp when an occupant exited the vehicle and was struck by an oncoming box truck. That individual sustained a serious head injury and was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. The extent of their condition has not yet been publicly disclosed.
In addition to the pedestrian, two other individuals associated with the incident were taken to the hospital with injuries described as minor by authorities.
Emergency personnel responded quickly to the scene to provide medical care and begin the investigation. The crash led to traffic delays in the area as police worked to process the scene and gather witness statements.
