Why Are Bicyclists at Higher Risk in Traffic Collisions?
Bicyclists are particularly vulnerable in traffic because they lack the physical protection that vehicles provide. Even low-speed collisions can result in injuries, especially when a cyclist is thrown from their bike upon impact.
Intersections like Noble Avenue and Pinkham Street can present additional risks, as drivers and cyclists must navigate crossing paths, turning vehicles, and changing traffic signals. Misjudging distance or failing to see a cyclist can quickly lead to a crash.
Safety measures such as wearing helmets, using bike lanes when available, and staying visible to drivers can help reduce risks. At the same time, drivers should remain alert and give cyclists enough space when passing or approaching intersections.
