What Makes Collisions Between Motorcycles and Larger Vehicles So Severe?
Crashes involving motorcycles and larger vehicles, such as moving trucks or rental vehicles, often result in more serious injuries for the rider. Motorcycles offer little protection, leaving riders vulnerable to direct impact forces during a collision.
Larger vehicles also have greater mass and create more force during impact, increasing the probability of severe consequences. In addition, drivers of trucks or larger vehicles may have limited visibility, making it harder to detect smaller vehicles like motorcycles, especially at intersections or during turns.
Roads like State Route 302, which may have fewer lanes and limited space for maneuvering, can further increase risks when unexpected situations arise. Both drivers and motorcyclists must remain cautious, maintain awareness, and allow adequate space to help reduce the likelihood of these serious crashes.
