Why Police Pursuits Often Lead to Serious Crashes
Police pursuits can quickly become dangerous due to high speeds and sudden movements. Drivers attempting to escape may ignore traffic signals, drive erratically, or collide with other vehicles. This increases the risk of crashes involving officers, suspects, and others nearby.
Multiple vehicles involved in a pursuit can create unpredictable situations. Sudden stops, sharp turns, and intentional collisions can lead to loss of control and severe damage. Vehicles may overturn or strike fixed objects such as trees or barriers.
Pursuits are carefully managed due to these risks. Road conditions, traffic levels, and driver behavior all influence how a pursuit unfolds and the likelihood of a crash.
