How Electrocution Incidents Can Occur During Elevated Utility Work
Electrocution incidents can happen during utility or cable installation when workers come into contact with energized power lines or electrical equipment. Jobs that require elevated platforms, such as bucket trucks, often place workers closer to overhead lines, increasing the risk of accidental contact.
Even indirect contact with live wires can result in serious or fatal injuries. High-voltage electricity can travel through tools, equipment, or nearby conductive materials. Proper safety procedures, including maintaining safe distances from power lines and using insulated equipment, are designed to reduce these risks.
Working at elevated heights may also limit a person’s ability to move quickly away from a hazard. Careful planning and awareness of nearby electrical sources are key parts of preventing workplace electrocution incidents.
