Why Cross-Traffic Intersections on Highways Can Be Dangerous
Intersections where local roads cross major highways can present serious risks for drivers. Vehicles traveling along highways often move at higher speeds than those entering or crossing from side roads.
Drivers attempting to cross multiple lanes must carefully judge the distance and speed of approaching vehicles. Even a small miscalculation can lead to a collision, especially when traffic is heavy.
Road layout, visibility, and traffic control signs can also affect how safely drivers navigate these intersections. Investigators reviewing crashes at highway crossings often study vehicle paths, impact points, and roadway conditions to determine how the incident developed.
