Houston, TX (February 24, 2026) – A woman lost her life after a pickup truck collided with her car early Tuesday morning at the intersection of Clay Rd and Sam Houston Toll Rd. Emergency units responded shortly after 1 a.m. on February 24 and found severe damage at the scene.
Reports indicate the pickup truck entered the intersection and struck the woman’s sedan as she was traveling east on Clay Rd. The impact pushed her vehicle a long distance before it stopped on a curb. The woman died from her injuries, while a young child in the back seat survived without harm.
The child, believed to be between 1 and 3 years old, was secured in a safety seat. Despite heavy damage to the vehicle, the child remained protected during the crash. The identity of the woman and the child has not yet been released.
The male driver of the pickup truck reportedly left the scene on foot but was located a short distance away and taken into custody. He faces a charge related to impaired driving, and warrants will be prepared by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to obtain additional evidence. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
How Child Safety Seats Help Protect Young Passengers in Serious Crashes
Child safety seats are designed to reduce the risk of injury during sudden impacts. They work by holding the child securely in place and spreading crash forces across stronger parts of the body. Properly installed seats can prevent ejection and reduce movement during a collision.
Many safety seats include multiple tether points that add stability. These tethers help limit forward motion and keep the seat from shifting during a crash. This extra support can make a significant difference, especially in high-speed or intersection accidents.
The size and position of the child also matter. Rear-facing or properly secured seats offer more protection for young children. Following manufacturer instructions and using all required straps and anchors helps ensure the best possible protection during unexpected crashes.
