Motorcycle Safety and Injury Risks
Motorcycle crashes often result in severe injuries due to the limited protection riders have compared to car occupants. Even when helmets are used, impacts at high speeds or collisions with larger vehicles can cause traumatic brain injuries and other serious harm.
Investigators typically review collision points, vehicle positions, speed, and road conditions to determine what contributed to the crash. Helmets, protective clothing, and defensive riding can reduce—but not eliminate—the risk of life-threatening injuries. Motorcycle collisions involving other vehicles are particularly dangerous because the weight and size differences greatly increase the force of impact.
