Indianapolis, IN (February 25, 2026) – A crash involving injuries and a semi-truck closed part of Interstate 465 on the east side on Tuesday morning, February 24. The collision happened around 6:30 a.m. near mile marker 45 on northbound I-465, between the exits for U.S. 40 (Washington Street) and I-70.
Reports indicated that three northbound lanes were shut down following the crash. Traffic quickly backed up as drivers tried to move past the scene during the morning commute.
Emergency units responded to the area, and crews worked to clear the roadway. All lanes reopened around 8:05 a.m., more than an hour after the initial closure.
No additional details about the number of people hurt or the cause of the crash have been released. The incident remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with those affected as they recover.
Why Do Highway Crashes Cause Major Delays?
Crashes on busy interstates often lead to significant backups, especially during rush hour. When multiple lanes close, traffic flow can slow to a crawl within minutes. Even a single blocked lane can disrupt steady highway movement.
Semi-trucks add another layer of complexity. Their size can make clearing damaged vehicles and debris more time-consuming. Large trucks may also block more than one lane after a collision.
Morning crashes can affect commuters heading to work or school. Once lanes reopen, it may still take time for traffic patterns to return to normal as congestion gradually eases.
