Indio, CA (January 2, 2026) – A pedestrian was killed on Wednesday night in a tragic hit-and-run collision on Van Buren St, just south of Dr. Carreon Blvd in Indio, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred shortly before 9:00 p.m. when an unidentified vehicle struck a person walking along or across Van Buren St. The driver fled the scene without stopping, leaving the victim critically injured on the roadway.
Responding officers from the Indio Police Department, along with paramedics, attempted life-saving measures upon arrival. Despite their efforts, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. No identifying information has been released regarding the deceased individual.
The suspect vehicle and driver remain at large, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. Authorities have not yet released a description of the vehicle involved.
