Iroquois County, IL (April 18, 2026) – Multiple rollover crashes involving semi-trucks on Interstate 57 left three people hospitalized Friday night in Iroquois County.
According to Illinois State Police, the first crash occurred just before 10:00 p.m. in the southbound lanes near milepost 270 by Buckley. A semi-truck overturned, and both the driver and a passenger were transported to the hospital for treatment.
Authorities say a second crash happened approximately 30 minutes later around 10:35 p.m. on the northbound side near the same location. In that incident, another semi-truck rolled over, and the driver was also taken to a hospital.
Emergency crews responded to both scenes, shutting down portions of the interstate for several hours while assisting the injured and clearing the roadway. The southbound lanes reopened shortly after midnight, while northbound lanes remained closed until early Saturday morning.
The severity of the injuries has not been fully disclosed, and investigators have not yet determined the cause of either crash.
Both incidents remain under investigation, and additional details may be released as they become available.
We are thinking of those injured and wish them a full recovery.
How Do Rollover Crashes Impact Occupants and Emergency Response?
Rollover crashes, especially those involving large vehicles like semi-trucks, can pose significant risks to occupants due to the force and instability involved when a vehicle overturns. Drivers and passengers may be subjected to multiple points of impact, increasing the likelihood of injury even if safety restraints are used.
These types of crashes also create complex emergency response situations. Large vehicles can block multiple lanes, spill cargo, or require specialized equipment to clear, which extends roadway closures. When multiple incidents occur close together, as in this case, it can further strain emergency resources and increase risks for both responders and other motorists traveling through the area.
